Interaction with animals has been shown to encourage residents to stay healthy, to cheer up and to relieve loneliness and stress. At NTUC Health’s Nursing Homes, residents have the opportunity to interact with domestic pets by holding, stroking and feeding these small animals. Young children may be invited to join in the interaction to promote inter-generational bonding.
INTERACTIVE DAY SPACES
A series of different themed day spaces around the home, also known as reminiscence corners, provide sensory stimulation for residents. These reminiscence corners simulate familiar environments such as a HDB living room, a HDB void deck, a classroom, a street hawker, and many more; creating environments that residents can relate to.
At these day spaces, residents can engage in reminiscence therapy and do various activities like play chess, read, do art and craft, play board games, and many others, to help them improve their cognitive functions and social skills. Residents, volunteers, families and staff can also bond through interactions within these comfortable and lively spaces.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, ENTERTAINMENT AND ENRICHMENT
NTUC Health’s Nursing Homes works with external organisations, interest groups, volunteers and the neighbourhood community to conduct various activities for its residents regularly. Frequent social interaction with people provides residents with a continued sense of belonging to the community.
Through a variety of entertainment and activities, such as singing, dancing, performance, games, art and craft, etc, residents experience sensorial richness. Outings are also conducted to provide opportunities to re-connect with the general public and experience changes in the community and environment.
All individuals who require skilled care and whose needs are within our care competencies (e.g., skill sets, available equipment).
