You may have heard of the Community Health Assistance Scheme (CHAS), Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation benefits that provide subsidies for medical and dental services at various clinics across Singapore. CHAS (Community Health Assistance Scheme)

What is CHAS?

The Community Health Assistance Scheme (CHAS) is a public assistance scheme that enables eligible Singaporeans to receive subsidies for medical and dental care at participating general practitioner and dental clinics. CHAS benefits are split into three tiers – CHAS Green, CHAS Orange and CHAS Blue

What are the dental services subsidised by CHAS?

Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation

What is the Pioneer Generation or Merdeka Generation Package?

The Pioneer Generation Package is a scheme that helps Singaporeans, born on or before 31 December 1949, with their healthcare and dental care costs for life. At NTUC Health Denticare, patients with the Pioneer Generation status can benefit from subsidies ranging from $21 to $266.50 for selected procedures.

Similarly, the Merdeka Generation Package helps Singaporeans born between 1950 and 1959 to offset costs of healthcare and dental care. Patients with Merdeka Generation status can receive subsidies ranging from $16 to $261.50 for selected dental procedures at NTUC Health Denticare.

How to receive CHAS subsidy for dental care

Please produce your valid CHAS, Merdeka or Pioneer Generation card and NRIC upon registration at our dental clinic.

Kindly consult your attending dentist on the actual fees prior to embarking on treatment as the treatment plan may vary between patients. Such fees vary with complexity, use of materials and time spent on the treatment. Quotations for complex work will be given before treatment.

Please note that corporate discount is not applicable should you utilise the above subsidy scheme.

What dental treatments can I pay for with MediSave?

NTUC Health Denticare is accredited by the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) as a day surgery facility. Patients who are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents may be able to use their Medisave Account to pay for a portion of the bill for selected procedures with Denticare.

The exact amount would depend on the complexity of the procedure. Each claim is based on a per-surgery basis and subject to final approval by the CPF Board. Find the common procedures claimable under the Medisave Scheme with this table below:

The amount claimable is set by the Ministry of Health (MOH). The above table is only a simple guide and the final amount may vary depending on the complexity of the case and withdrawal limits set by MOH.

How do I claim with MediSave for dental treatment?

First, ensure that you have a MediSave account with sufficient funds. You can obtain information about your MediSave account at the CPF Board website, or via their hotline at 1800-227-1188.

If you do not have an account, or insufficient balance in the account, you can use the MediSave savings of your immediate family members, such as children, parents, grandchildren, siblings or a spouse. You must be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident to use the Medisave savings of your sibling or grandchildren.

During payment, we will assist you in submitting the MediSave claims. In order to do so, you will need to provide us with the following:

  • Photocopies of both sides of the patient’s and MediSave Account Holder’s NRIC
  • Completed MediSave Claim Authorization Form (provided by clinic) with signatures by both the patient and MediSave Account Holder(s)

NTUC Health Denticare will submit the information together with the invoices to the relevant parties. No further action will be required on your part. It takes between two to three weeks for the claim to be processed. Please note that the maximum claim amount that can be withdrawn will be subjected to the MediSave claim limit for each bill.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

  • Subsidies for CHAS, Merdeka and Pioneer Generation cardholders cannot be added together.

  • CHAS Blue, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation card holders are entitled to subsidies for tooth extractions, including routine wisdom tooth extractions that do not require surgery. Subsidies range from $28.50 to $78.50, depending on the complexity of the case, location of the tooth and the CHAS card status.

  • To receive subsidies for dental treatment, you will first need to apply for a CHAS card.

    While every Singapore Citizen is eligible for CHAS, the enrolment onto CHAS is on an application basis. Find out about your eligibility and submit an application via CHAS website. Successful applicants and their household members will receive a CHAS card that indicates the subsidy tier they are eligible for.
