When the time comes for your ageing parents to be cared for, how do you balance your needs with theirs? Will you look for an elderly caregiving service to provide your loved one with support from the comfort of home or at a day facility? Or will they need personalised round-the-clock care at a nursing home and specialised therapy? Foremost on your mind will be to keep your loved ones safe, and that they receive quality care and attention.
This is where NTUC Health can help with our professional, award-winning elderly care services that include day care, home care, 24-7 residential care and rehabilitation services.
Then known as NTUC Eldercare, our first social day care centre in Marsiling was set up in 1999 to provide support to working families by taking care of their elderly loved ones while they were at work. NTUC Health has come a long way since then. Today, we offer islandwide personalised home care services, nursing homes and senior day care centres to cater for the time you or your helper is away from your loved ones.
In this article, we share how you can receive caregiver support, so that you can have peace of mind knowing your loved one is in good hands. Learn more about a specific service by jumping to the following sections:

Our Day Centres for Seniors located across Singapore provide a conducive environment for the elderly to socialise through planned activities in group settings, all while having their basic care needs taken care of during the day. We also offer short-term and ad-hoc care at these centres.
Day Care – Activities at our Day Centres for Seniors focus on helping seniors to bond with peers and younger friends, learn new skills and stay healthy and active while you are away at work. There are daily exercises, festive celebrations, and even arts and crafts activities through our inter-generational programme for them to enjoy! Basic care needs, such as fall prevention, wound management and medication reminders, are also well taken care of.
Dementia Care – Seniors with dementia can improve their quality of life and well-being through mental exercises, music, art and reminiscence therapy, and inter-generational activities designed to improve or maintain the seniors’ cognitive processes and coordination.
Flexible Care – The centre also offers Fun with Friends, a programme that helps seniors with mild cognitive impairment and or dementia stay engaged. Held at NTUC Health Day Centre for Seniors (Bukit Batok West), the programme is conducted in a group of up to 12 persons, in three-hour weekly sessions and lasts for 12 weeks.

There are many seniors in Singapore who choose to age at home, but live-in caregivers or a permanent foreign domestic worker may not be an option due to reasons such as limited space at home, or the desire for privacy. You may then be looking for part-time caregivers in Singapore to take care of your loved ones in familiar and comfortable surroundings.
To cater to these needs, we have various home care services that you can consider.
Home Personal Care – Have one of our trained Care Associates drop by your place to keep your loved ones company while you are at work or need a break. Our Care Associates can help with activities of daily living such as bathing, transferring, and moving about the house safely. They will also keep your loved ones engaged through puzzles, games, and can even prepare meals, do grocery shopping or medical escorting to accompany them for their doctor’s appointments.
Home Nursing – Need a professional to take care of your loved one who is recovering at home after a hospital discharge? Our Home Nursing service can help with change of feeding tubes and urinary catheters, wound and stoma care, and administering diabetes medication, among others.
Home Therapy – Suitable for the senior who has recently been discharged from a hospital or looking to improve their functional abilities, Home Therapy is led by a qualified team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists who can recommend a therapy plan for your loved one’s rehab goals. They will even be able to provide advice for any necessary home modifications so that your loved one can move about safely.
Home Medical – Does your loved one need to see a doctor? Arrange for one of our qualified doctors to visit your home. Our doctors’ medical prescription is recognised at all polyclinics and selected specialist outpatient clinics in Singapore.
Interim Caregiver – Has your loved one recently been discharged from the hospital? A nursing aide can be called in for temporary care while you make arrangements for long-term caregiving at home. Do note that your loved one will need a referral from the hospital to be enrolled.

If you are looking for round-the-clock care for your loved one in the longer term, you may consider enrolling them at a nursing home. Our nursing homes have been designed to nurture and provide a safe environment for those with advanced dementia, stroke, late-stage Parkinson’s and other conditions requiring 24-hour care.
Personalised, on-going nursing care, intensive rehabilitation programmes and social interaction play a big part in our homes. With celebrations, evening activities and interest groups, residents have something they can look forward to everyday.

We offer both regular and single bedders at our nursing homes. Medication and other consumables are not covered by the basic rate, and may be incurred depending on your needs and preferences.

Is your loved one living with a stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease or dementia? Physiotherapy and occupational therapy may help your loved one to maximise mobility, improve balance and alleviate pain, while speech therapy can help them to speak and swallow with greater ease. These programmes can be made available either in the comfort of your home or at one of our Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy centres.
Day Rehabilitation – Our Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy centres feature a comprehensive range of senior-friendly equipment and are staffed with an experienced therapy team to help you or your loved one with your rehabilitation goals. Your loved one may also be eligible for our tele-rehab service to attend rehab sessions over video calls!
