Elderly Care FAQ

Please inform your Care Coordinator-in-charge at least 3-5 working days before the scheduled service if you would need to cancel.

To process your application, we would need a completed referral form, doctor’s memo, and a soft copy of your loved one’s NRIC.

If applicable, please also provide a list of medication prescriptions and a completed National Means Testing System Form.

We have both male and female caregivers in our team.

We have an experienced team of doctors, nurses, therapists, nursing aides, and care associates ready to provide personalised care and support to your loved ones.

Our Care Associates, although not nurse-trained, are required to undergo 8 days of compulsory training on elderly caregiving. Contact us to find out the best suited option for your loved one.

Simply complete and submit the referral form along with supporting documents for application processing. We will be in touch with you shortly regarding your application.

Our Home Care Services are typically available from 8 am to 6 pm. However, we understand that you may require assistance after hours. Please speak to us if you would like to arrange for our Home Care Services at night; additional surcharges apply.

A doctor's memo helps us to understand and provide for your loved one's needs before a nurse from our Home Care service steps into their home for an assessment.

The processing time for application and service confirmation usually takes about 3-14 working days. As part of the application process, supporting documents and a scheduled nurse’s assessment are needed to help us better understand your loved one’s needs. Whether your loved one is living with dementia or recovering from stroke, our Home Care services are tailored to each senior’s needs. Dementia care, therapy and rehabilitation can all be provided to your loved one in the comfort of their home. Submit a form for more information, and our staff will be in touch.

Our Nursing Aides under the Home Personal Care service are trained to perform basic procedures such as simple wound dressing and nasogastric tube (NGT) feeding. For more complex procedure-based care, such as NGT tube reinsertion, advanced wound management, and other nursing procedures, our Community Nurses under the Home Nursing service will be able to assist.

We have a wide range of Home Care services available to cater to your loved one’s needs at home.

We provide both long-term nursing home care and respite care.

Long-term nursing home care provides for stay-in residents who require round-the-clock nursing care needs.

Respite care is a short-term care option that lasts from 1 to 4 weeks.
 

We work carefully with each resident, including those with dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease and other debilitating conditions, to provide high quality, 24-hour nursing care. Residents can look forward to "Fun after 7" activities after dinner daily to keep active, as well as organised outings and more.

Nursing home admissions are referred by AIC. Click here to view AIC’s criteria for placement into a nursing home.

Speak to a medical social worker at a public hospital or polyclinic to check if you qualify for government subsidy, and to receive advice on subsidy application.

They will be able to apply for a means-test with the National Means Testing System provided by MOH, and can provide you with more information on whether you qualify for a subsidy with our nursing home service.
 

At NTUC Health’s nursing homes, we strive to provide quality and affordable care for your loved ones. The basic fee ranges from $1,200 to $5,700 a month, depending on your eligibility for MOH subsidies.

Additional charges may apply including consumables and a one-time admission charge.
 

For residents who do not qualify for MOH subsidies, the basic rates start from $4,800 a month, with the actual fee dependent on the resident’s care needs and choice of accommodation (regular bedders or single bedders). Similar to subsidised residents, additional charges may apply.

All MOH-subsidised admissions to nursing homes are done through the Agency of Integrated Care (AIC), a centralised government agency that manages the bed availability of all nursing homes in Singapore. You can approach medical social workers in public hospitals or polyclinics to submit an application to AIC for your preferred nursing home. Learn more here.

Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents may be eligible for government subsidies and financial assistance, depending on the monthly household income per person, amongst other criteria. The amount of subsidy will be determined through the National Means Testing System (NMTS).

Clients who have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and early stage of dementia are suitable for our Fun with Friends programme.

Each session is conducted once a week, and lasts for 3 hours per session. Your loved ones may attend the sessions regularly for maximum benefit.

Through Fun with Friends, seniors will have weekly access to a structured programme of mentally and physically stimulating activities that aim to maintain and improve their cognitive and physical functions, and keep them engaged. Caregivers can also take the time to attend to their personal commitments, or speak to our staff for more support through the caregiving journey.

The sessions are conducted by trained staff and have been developed by our occupational therapists.

Transport is not provided and families will be required to arrange for transport for their loved ones.

Yes, a spouse can attend the session with a person with dementia, and session fees will apply.

Yes, they can observe or assist their loved ones during the session.

DayCare+ is a programme for seniors to participate in live and pre-recorded exercises and other fun activities from the comfort of their homes, via online access over a tablet or laptop.

The programme is suitable for seniors with early stage dementia, or little to no cognitive impairment. Seniors may require help from a caregiver at home to help with logging on to the online programme and facilitating the activities.

It costs $199 per month (inclusive of GST) to attend DayCare+. A trial session is available at $39 for 1 session.

The programme includes live morning sessions with our care staff, and pre-recorded video tutorials on gardening, art and craft activities, games and virtual tours which clients can access at any time of the day. Please note that clients will need to have their own internet connection and a laptop, tablet or phone to take part in DayCare+. You may also be required to assist your loved one in preparing session materials and participating in the activities.

Seniors can enjoy social engagement via the virtual platform, improve on their functional abilities through exercises and maintain their cognitive health and wellbeing. The programme provides more choices for engaging seniors throughout the day and encourages bonding between seniors and their caregivers. Clients who often travel between multiple locations may also benefit from DayCare+ as a flexible care solution.

DayCare+ consists of daily online sessions of 30 mins in the morning from Mon to Fri (excluding weekends and public holidays). 30 mins of pre-recorded sessions may also be accessed at any time of the day.

Some examples of activities covered in our DayCare+ programme include:

• Exercises such as resistance band workouts and stretching to maintain physical functions and stimulate the body’s meridians
• Mind-stimulating activities such as puzzles, guessing games, and reminiscence sessions to jog the memory
• Arts and crafts, gardening and virtual tours to engage seniors
• Engagements with volunteers and inter-generational sessions with children to facilitate conversations

Fun with Friends (Plus) is suitable for persons with mild to moderate dementia, with a dementia diagnosis. 

All clients will undergo a cognitive test to determine their suitability for the programme.

An accompanying caregiver is encouraged to be present if the client has a high fall risk, requires assistance with walking, or needs help with toileting.

MOH provides subvention support for transportation services for AIC-referred clients only. Terms and conditions apply. 

For self-referring clients, transportation is not covered, and arrangements will need to be arranged independently.

We try our best to assign trained staff to match the languages or dialects spoken by your loved ones. In some cases, we may seek support from family members or caregivers.

If your loved one requires round-the-clock care, or has increasing care needs that you or your domestic helper cannot address, you may want to consider enrolling him/her in our nursing homes.

Housekeeping services are provided as part of the stay. Meals are not included, but residents can opt-in for a meal arrangement service at an additional cost.

Staycay@HendersonHome is designed for seniors aged 60 and above who are independent in their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as toileting, showering, and dressing, and are medically certified fit for communal living. Please note that assistance with feeding and transferring is not included.

We have a stay-in staff who does periodic check-ins on our residents, and who can provide on-site support in case of emergency when alerted. Medication reminders, blood pressure monitoring and other forms of support are also available on request.

$80 per night for a twin-sharing unit (per bed) 

$120 per night for a single-bed unit 

There is also a one-time administrative fee of $60 and a refundable deposit of $300. Government subsidies are not available for this programme. All prices are subject to GST.
