Specially designed and tailored to help individuals living with Parkinson's disease maintain mobility, improve function, and enhance overall well-being through tailored exercises that address the unique challenges of the condition.
Individuals living with Parkinson's disease often face challenges in mobility, strength, and overall quality of life, impacting their independence and daily activities.
Our dedicated Parkinson's Exercise Class is designed to help individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease improve their physical function while fostering emotional and social well-being. Led by rehabilitation staff with specialised training from Parkinson Society Singapore (PSS), the programme offers tailored exercises that address the unique needs of participants.
The class is suitable for individuals, including seniors who can participate in group exercises with some assistance from caregivers, if needed.
Through an initial assessment, each participant receives a personalised exercise plan, including one-on-one sessions and access to senior-friendly equipment. The programme also introduces participants to Active Ageing activities and interim respite care options for caregivers in need of temporary relief.
The duration for the Parkinson’s Exercise Class is six months, with weekly sessions that progressively build strength and mobility.
Each class consists of three to five participants, allowing for a personalised and supportive environment. This small group size ensures that every participant gets the attention they need to effectively manage their symptoms and improve their function.
Assessment:
During the initial visit, a physiotherapist will assess each participant to create a customised exercise plan. This includes:
Four initial one-on-one sessions tailored to address the participant’s needs (partially covered by Medisave, for eligible individuals)
Access to senior-friendly strengthening machines with guidance from professional exercise trainers
Review and Discussion:
Upon completing the Parkinson's Exercise Classes, a review will be conducted to assess the client's suitability to continue with group programmes. Further discussion will be made with the client to support their wellbeing e.g. active ageing services, home care or residential care, ensuring peace of mind and continued support for both participants and their families.
