Circuit Training is a low to moderate intensity muscle strengthening and endurance training programme that also improves balance and builds cardiovascular fitness. The programme uses specially designed HUR machines that are gentle on the joints and muscles.
Participants will go through short bursts of intense exercise on each machine to engage different muscle groups on their arms, legs, core and back, with rest periods in between stations
Our gym machines use pneumatic (air pressure) technology that allows weight increments of as little as 100g, to cater to users who are new to gym programmes. Our fitness trainers will guide you on a suitable exercise plan that is personalised to your level of fitness, ability and preferences. To ensure your safety, we have blood pressure monitors available for pre-class checks for a safer workout.
Circuit Training is suitable for you if you:
want to improve your muscle strength and endurance, and up your cardiovascular fitness
are new to strength training and need guidance from experienced fitness trainers
have conditions such as osteoarthritis, low muscle mass, or chronic illnesses and want to improve your strength and fitness level
prefer the ease of using gym machines, as compared to other fitness equipment such as dumbbells
Circuit Training will not be suitable if you:
are unable to move from machine to machine independently
have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, and are not on medication or treatment to control them
have any medical condition that may put you at risk when exercising
prefer a non-machine-based exercise, in which you may consider our Functional Strength Training

I was recommended by my doctor to go for strength training exercises to build my muscles after my knee cap replacement surgery. I’m glad that I managed to find out about NTUC Health’s Circuit Training programme. I find the programme very useful because I get to try out different machines to build up my muscles, which is very important for me. I referred my friend who also had her kneecap replaced, to join me and she too found the strength training programme beneficial! Recently, I had my follow-up appointment with my doctor and he noticed that my leg muscle strength has improved and encouraged me to continue with my Circuit Training.

I'd like to congratulate NTUC Health for running a very good Circuit Training programme. The trainers that my Mom and I met are professional and knowledgeable. They are patient and have very enviable attitudes and skills in communicating with seniors. Trainer Hana has a kind and caring nature to go with her sunny bubbly personality. She put to rest my worry that Circuit Training would be too tough for mother.

Place is very clean, gym is private and facing a garden. Trainer is very knowledgeable and caring, will teach how to use the machines properly so we don't sprain ourselves. Good that there is a trainer there at every session to help, can't wait to see progress!

I Iove this gym. It is so spacious and peaceful and the trainers attend to my needs. I have backache and knee pain. I started my second session already and I feel that my muscles are strengthening with the help of the trainer who corrects my posture.
Ms Serene Lim, client with NTUC Health's Circuit Training programme
The Circuit Training programme here is very useful. There are machines here that allow you to push yourself and work on the muscles. The trainers here are very good and motivate us to continue and not give up when we get a bit tired. They patiently explain and correct our postures when exercising. We get to meet new friends in class too!

Our centres are equipped with gym equipment designed with the elderly in mind. Our HUR and FREI equipment use air and water pressure technology, and are gentle and safe on the muscles and joints. These machines are suitable for elderly who have not been exercising regularly, have poor balance or weak limbs.
The machines have built in smart technology that remembers the user’s preferences and will adjust the weights accordingly, with the use of a smart card. The machines can also be adjusted with the tap of a button, and the weights increase in 100g increments, making it very safe for the elderly
Sarcopenia, or age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, can
lead to physical disability and loss of independence.
Studies have shown that we lose about 3%-8% muscle mass per decade after the age of 30 and the rate of loss increases after the age of 60. As muscle loss progresses, we may begin to reduce our physical activities, resulting in further loss of muscle strength and endurance and hence increase the risks of fall and fractures.
Therefore, resistance or weight-bearing exercises are important for us to strengthen our muscles and bones to prevent osteoporosis and sarcopenia, so that we can continue to be independent and active as we age.
They are welcome to wait for you at our seating areas while you attend our classes.
For our Circuit Training Focus programme, a limit of two persons per client may be present to assist you in moving from one machine to another should you require assistance.
