NTUC Health, formerly known as NTUC Eldercare, officially took over the management of the Henderson Senior Citizens’ Home, the May Wong Lifestyle Centre and the May Wong Social Centre from the Chinese Women’s Association on 2 January 2010. The Home was managed and funded by the Chinese Women’s Association from 1978 to 2009. It was renamed to simply Henderson Home in 2013 after a major renovation and re-opening ceremony.
Henderson Home is an integrated facility that provides a home for ambulant elderly who need a place to stay, a day care centre and a senior activity centre. The home is managed by a network of multi-disciplinary health care staff and professionals.
The Home provides residential care for elderly who are ambulant and who need a place to stay. Some of the residents are on Public Assistance Schemes and stay in the Home long term.
CARE PHILOSOPHY AT THE HOME
Residents are encouraged to be independent by enjoying freedom of movement, keeping their rooms clean and cooking for themselves. They also participate in meaningful and fun activities organised by the day care and senior activity centre
SENIOR DAY CARE
The Day Centre for Seniors (May Wong Social Centre) provides full-day care programmes (7am to 7pm) during the weekdays to engage the elderly while their family members are away at work. The full-time supervisor, nurse and care assistants provide professional care to the elderly. A medical doctor visits the elderly regularly. The centre also provides meals and transport services at minimal cost.
SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTRE
The Senior Activity Centre organises social day activities for the elderly. Elderly can exercise in the gym, leisure read in the centre, or enjoy a cup of coffee over chat with friends. There is also a HP Lifestyle Centre, donated by Hewlett Packard.
